we should first examine it and see whether it is not
something that could better be changed in ourselves.
Awareness leads to change. We all want the right of genital integrity extended to all people in the world. Only the individual has the right to decide how their body looks, senses, and functions.
The United Nations Declaration of the Child expressly demands that children be protected from forced genital harm, regardless of the intentions of the proponent.
There has been some progress over the past twenty years. Some countries have outlawed female genital cutting of minors. The intersexed now have more options as parents and doctors learn more, and people’s attitude towards being intersexed moves from stigma towards acceptance. Male infant cirumcision rates continue to drop in English speaking countries, but the number of forced circumcisions of boys remains unchanged for the rest of the world.
Project: OUCH! hopes to add new programs to accelerate this change.
